Salivating Over Succotash: Old Bank Converted to High End Restaurant

Posted on

The old Equitable Bank Building in Washington DC recently experienced a design metamorphosis. Over the past year it underwent a huge renovation converting this old historic bank building to a new high-end restaurant. The restaurant, Succotash, is the second restaurant of the same name opened by chef Edward Lee in partnership with Knead Hospitality + Design. Ceiling Art Store’s parent company, Profile Designs, was hired to create the faux plaster moulding for the mezzanine ceiling as well as many large mirror grilles located in the main dining section of the restaurant.

The designs chosen for this project are both classic and contemporary, containing diamond and circular repeating patterns. The faux plaster ceiling moulding was painted the same color white as the smoothed out ceiling to imitate the look of cast plaster moulding. One of the major benefits of using faux plaster ceiling moulding over cast plaster is that it’s significantly lighter in weight and in cost.

The mirror grilles are made of the same material and received the same white finish as the ceiling moulding. The only difference other than design is the edge profile. The faux plaster moulding has an ornate profile while the mirror grilles contain more of a simplistic bevel.
